Quite simply, The Tremeloes were one of the greatest bands of the sixties with a string of hits stretching from 1963, when they were known as Brian Poole and The Tremeloes, through to 1971. In amongst the 21 hits (21 hits in 8 years, not many bands can claim THAT), there were 11 Top Tens and, with ‘Do You Love Me’ and the sublime ‘Silence Is Golden’, a brace of chart toppers.

After the hits dried up in the UK, they racked up a few more on the continent, and today 40-odd years later, they are still in demand as cabaret performers. Still boasting two originals in guitarist Rick Westwood and drummer Dave Munden, they command respect from everyone in the business and play to ecstatic audiences wherever they go.

This excellent DVD is a collection of 20 of the band’s hits and shows them performing on various TV shows in Britain and Europe (a couple of appearances on ‘The Basil Brush Show’ is among ‘em).

Also of interest are some promo films at a time when such things were in their infancy, showcasing the fact that The Trems embraced new ideas.

Although most of the group’s hits were in the Swinging Sixties, this collection takes us into the eighties when the band were still recording excellent material such as the two singles here: ‘Words’ and ‘Someone’.

The extras are more of the same, but of special interest is an item featuring band member Alan Blakley at home – unfortunately it’s taken from a European programme so only Alan’s comments are in English.

At almost an hour and a half, this is a superb look back at one of the very best of British bands.
