BOLTON was deluged with rain yesterday — as weather forecasters predicted a miserable October for the north.

The borough was washed-out with a series of heavy showers.

And residents are being warned to expect more of the same for the the next 10 days. Showers or heavy rain are being forecast until at least October 9.

And weather-watchers will note a chill in the air as October rolls on, according to Paul Mott of MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association.

He said: “It will be a cold start and a shock to the system for many people after the sunnier end to September.

“Temperatures will be well below average and there will be frosts at night for parts of northern England.”

However, yesterday’s terrible weather did not stop people in Bolton getting out and about.

Our photographs show town centre workers and shoppers braving the elements with their trusty brollies. Shops have reported a rise in sales of winter coats and other warm clothes, as the autumn sets in .
