THE launch of the Green Heroes 2008 will be officially marked tomorrow at the Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park.

Our newspaper vendors will be outside Marks and Spencer from 10am — with some great green goodies to give away to readers.

The first 200 people to buy a copy of The Bolton News will receive a bag for life and two energy-saving lightbulbs for free.

A further 800 people will receive two free energy-saving lightbulbs when they buy a copy of the paper.

Using the lightbulbs will conserve energy — and save cash. Replacing two 60w bulbs with environmentally friendly 15w alternatives will save households an average of £65 over the bulb’s lifetime.

Meanwhile, Max the Middlebrook Moose will be on hand to keep children entertained and the Wanderers Mascot, Lofty the Lion, will make an appearance between noon and 1pm.

A facepainter will transform youngsters into monsters, superheroes or whatever their imagination demands, between noon and 2pm.

Heather Crank-Ingham, marketing and PR executive for Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park, said: “Last year the search for Bolton’s Green Heroes sparked an unprecedented response from the community. It was a huge success and highlighted how important it is for local businesses, communities and individuals to work hard to look after the environment.

“I am so proud to have been a part of something that championed and recognised these inspirational people, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.

“At Middlebrook, we’re once again encouraging all our retailers and shoppers to take part in the campaign, as so many continue to take steps to recycle more and to save energy. Everyone can help make a change, no matter how big or small, all these positive actions combine for the greater good, and that is what will make a difference in the long run.”
