YOUNGSTERS dressed as their favourite storybook heroes to mark the end of book week at school.
Children at Gaskell County Primary in Bolton transformed themselves for a fancy dress parade as part of a series of events to celebrate the National Year of Reading. Even teachers got in on the fun, with many donning costumes of famous characters.
Iris Stanton, business manager at the school in Thomas Holden Street, organised the event. She said: “The children have been involved in a number of activities and have loved every one. They particularly liked the fancy dress parade, but have been excited about everything.
“The children have been inspired to take more of an interest in reading.”
The youngsters also got to watch screen adaptations of classic novels.
Book week is an annual event to celebrate literature.”
