ELBOW have announced that they will play their final gig of 2009 in Manchester before returning to the studio to record their fifth album.

The Bury band, who formed at Stand College in Whitefield in the 90s, have promised a musical and visual extravaganza at the MEN Arena on Friday, September 18.

The northern counterpart to their triumphant Wembley date, the show will round off the band’s incredible year by bringing their award winning album The Seldom Seen Kid back home to the city of its birth for one last celebration.

Frontman Guy Garvey said: “It’s been a brilliant couple of years if, at times, a bit frantic and occasionally bizarre.

“To finish with a home town show is the perfect end to a perfect year.”

The production for the show will once again involve Manchester’s visual arts magicians and long term Elbow collaborators The Soup Collective. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am priced £25 and are available via www.gigsandtours.com or on 08712200260.

Elbow were named Best British Band at this year’s Brit Awards, and scooped the 2008 Mercury Music Prize for The Seldom Seen Kid. They were given the prize for Outstanding Contribution to British Music at the NME Awards in February, and also won the South Bank Show Award for best album. Two forthcoming dates with the Halle orchestra as part of the Manchester International Festival sold out almost immediately.
