BOLTON MP Dr Brian Iddon is to publish his expenses claims on a monthly basis.

Dr Iddon, who represents Bolton South East, is also preparing his last two years’ receipts for publication on his website.

He said: “My staff have been working very hard to get the claims ready for publication and I hope the last two years will be on the website in the next day or so.

“It has taken quite a lot of work because all the personal details such as staff addresses, bank account details etc have to be blanked out before they can be made public.”

MPs have come under increased scrutiny over their expenses claims in the last fortnight after the Daily Telegraph obtained leaked information about what politicians have claimed under the second homes allowance.

The paper, and its sister title the Sunday Telegraph, has been publishing details of MPs’ claims.

These include claims for designer furniture, home entertainment systems and services such as moat cleaning and the changing of lightbulbs.

In last Tuesday’s Bolton News, Dr Iddon — who has been an MP since 1997 and will retire at the next General Election — launched a scathing attack on some of those politicians who have been using the expenses system to line their own pockets.

He said: “I have always said I have nothing to hide and from now on I will be uploading them to my website on a monthly basis for people to scrutinise.”
