Hydrocharger, Bolton Enterprise Centre

AN innovative Bolton firm is fuelling its own path towards prosperity thanks to a system which could be the salvation of cost and environment-conscious motorists.

Hydrocharger Ltd was established to design, develop manufacture and distribute Hydrocharger, a device that can be fitted to almost any motor vehicle to dramatically improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.

In the past four years, the directors have invested more than £100,000 in research and development (R&D) to produce a system for cars that has generated £14,000 worth of sales alone since January with only limited publicity.

And this figure is forecast to grow on completion of the product accreditation.

The firm, based at the Bolton Enterprise Centre, aims to undertake further R&D for a system targeted at the heavy goods vehicle market over the next 12 months.

Hydrocharger Ltd, which currently has four staff, was established by Neil and Samantha Prendergast through their passion for motor racing, initially developing the hydrogen technology to be used primarily in motor competition.

With the rise in fuel prices, environmental impact and depletion of natural resources, the directors realised potential for the wider commercial market.

Over a four-year period, the partners developed a unique system for the car and light vehicle market which is being protected with patent pending.

This year, the company launched the product through a network of installers and via its website.

Managing director Samantha has extensive knowledge and experience in various industries while technical director Neil , the inventor and developer of Hydrocharger, has had a career in the automotive industry spanning more than 25 years.

Samantha said: “The business plan to capture just 0.1 per cent market share over the next five years valued at £7 million. The other potential application of this technology is in marine, trains and aeroplane sector.”
