HER daughter’s piercing screams and horrific injuries will be etched in Karyn Killiner’s mind forever.

Nothing could have prepared her for seeing her beautiful daughter Amy Barnes lying in a hospital bed, crying out in pain following the brutal stabbing by her boyfriend Ricardo Morrison.

The teenage model suffered nine wounds to her body, and a 10cm slash across her face from the corner of her mouth which sliced through her cheek.

As she was taken away for surgery Mrs Killiner heard Amy scream: “I want to die” — the last thing the 19-year-old said.

Mrs Killiner, aged 41, said: “Nothing prepared me for what I saw. Her injuries were horrific and what he had done to Amy’s beautiful face — I knew that was to completely disfigure her.

“It was such a personal attack to Amy, and to me. She could not have lived with those injuries.

“I tried to touch her and stroke her and she was screaming so much. I turned to a member of staff and asked ‘is she going to be OK?’ “I said “please do not let her die” but he could not speak to me and just shook his head.

“The doctors took Amy to the operating theatre and just before they gave her the injection to sedate her she screamed “I want to die” and I knew that’s what she wanted because I knew she could not take it anymore.”

Earlier that day, November 8, Amy phoned her mother because Ricardo had locked her in the house and she was frightened.

Amy said that she had told Morrison that he was not going to control her anymore and she asked her mum to pick her up.

It was arranged with Amy’s father, Andrew Barnes, that he would collect a key from his mother who was at work at Asda in Farnworth, and he would to let her out of the house.

He arrived at the house less than 10 minutes after Amy had been stabbed. He found her at the foot of the stairs in a pool of blood.

Mrs Killiner said: “I got a call from Amy and I knew there was something wrong. She said “please will you come and get me mum?” I said “yes darling.”

“She kept saying it and there was an urgency in her voice, I could tell she was frightened and she started to cry. I called Andrew and he went to get a key.

“I had a friend with me at home and I wish I had kept Amy on the phone talking to her while I was in the car, and I think that maybe if she was on the phone when he came in then maybe he would not have done what he did.

“Or I should have told her to hide in grandma’s wardrobe or under the bed.

“I told her to pack a little bag and we could sort the rest out later. I tried to phone her when I was on my way and left two messages, I tried to stay calm so as not to not alert him if he was there.

“When she did not pick up the second time I called 999 and they told me there had already been a call from that address and I thought “good girl”.

“I was shaking because the adrenalin was pumping and the emergency services operator talked me through my journey.

“As I got to Moses Gate she diverted me to the hospital. As I was driving I approached some traffic lights that turned red and an ambulance passed me and I knew my daughter was inside.“ Mr Barnes told how he found his daughter on that fateful day. He arrived at the house shortly after 11.30am and unlocked the front door.

As he walked in he saw Amy on the floor and said: “Amy, Amy, what have you done?.” His voice was heard on the 999 call that Amy made and was played to the jury.

He explained how the day started like an ordinary Saturday, when he was at his motorcycle tyres business.

He said: “My phone went off and I often get calls from customers, but when I looked and saw it was Karyn I thought it was strange.

“I called her back and she told me that Amy needed me and to go and let her out of the house because he had locked her in.

“I jumped in the van and thought this is not fair and I will get her out and then work at stopping this situation because I was getting to the end of my tether.”

Mr Barnes described the sight that met him as he opened the door.

“Walking through the door was the hardest day of my life. No-one should have to see that, not their little girl.

“Since then it has been a living nightmare. I just think if I had been 10 minutes earlier this might not have happened. I thought at first that she had fallen down the stairs but then I saw all the blood coming from underneath and realised that it was serious.

“I thought that it had to be Ricardo Morrison because he was the only one who had keys and the back door was open.

“I went to the hospital and kept thinking that she was going to be OK because I did not know the extent of the injuries.

“When the doctors told me she had died I felt like someone put their hand in my chest and ripped my heart out.”
