CRIMINALS could soon find themselves caught on film after police started wearing small cameras attached to their clothing.
Police hope the cameras will help reduce paperwork and increase the number of bobbies on the beat because the high-quality cameras will to some extent replace the need for detailed written statements.
It is also hoped the extra evidence will help increase the number of convictions.
The scheme was piloted by Lancashire police, who cover the area north of Bolton including Belmont, Turton and Egerton, but is now set to be taken up across the country.
Insp Mick Laraway said: “The body-worn cameras are great news because they are going to significantly improve the quality of evidence provided by police officers.”
