A COMPANY’S bid to help Marie Curie raise £200,000 got under way with a Blooming Great Tea Party.

Staff at Premex, in Futura Park, Middlebrook, are backing our campaign to help Marie Curie reach its target over the next 12 months, which will go towards providing free nursing care to terminally ill people in their own homes.

The firm, which provides medico-legal reports to law and insurance firms, is the first company to support The Bolton News’ charity campaign by selecting Marie Curie as its beneficiary this year.

Staff raised £250 by staging the tea party. The total raised by workers at the end of the year will be matched by a donation from the business.

Almost all of the company’s 200 employees took part in the event, which saw managing director Donald Fowler serving refreshments. Marketing assistant Katie Trussell said: “It was a really good day and lots of people brought home-made cakes in.

“Every year our employees nominate a worthy cause, and we had a lot of nominations for Marie Curie because it’s such a worthwhile cause.”

Marie Curie now wants other companies and people to get behind the appeal. Area fundraising manager Jemma Halman said: “We’re absolutely thrilled and this is exactly the kind of support that’s going to make this appeal a success in Bolton.”
