A CHARITY fishing match held to raise money for the Amy Leigh Barnes Foundation is set to become an annual event.

Friends and family of the murdered model raised £400 at the event held at Bradshaw Fisheries.

The Foundation will help victims of domestic violence and young people who have a passion for performing, like Amy.

The 19-year-old was stabbed to death by her boyfriend, Ricardo Morrison, who was sentenced to life in prison and ordered to serve a minimum of 24 years behind bars last month.

The bubbly actress, who had appeared in Hollyoaks, sought help from domestic violence organisation Fortalice the week before she was killed.

Now her friends and family are organising a number of events to raise money to help others in Amy’s memory.

More than 40 people attended the fishing match, which was organised by Amy’s step grandfather Don Killiner.

He said: “It was a very good day and a good turn out.

“People were generous and we are hoping to raise lots of money for Amy’s charity to help others achieve what they want to achieve. I used to take Amy fishing on occasions when she was about 10 or 11 and she enjoyed it and managed to catch a few.

“I wanted to do this as a way of contributing to the charity and hope to organise another next year.”

The winner of the match was Peter Hodgkinson, who was presented with a trophy by Amy’s step father John Killiner.

Amy’s mother, Karyn Killiner, who was unable to attend the event on Sunday, added: “I am still struggling so very much and finding life without Amy unbearable, but the help and good things that people are doing to raise funds for Amy’s foundation and the support they give us really does give me hope that we can do something to help other people and honour Amy’s memory.”
