AN artist is to be sponsored by an international paint company after it learnt of his work with the community.

Oliver Wotherspoon creates art for and with the community — schools, parks, and housing schemes.

He set up his Cool Canvas in 2005 to enhance the local environment, reduce vandalism, inspire young people and create a sense of security for older residents.

His vision inspired Fraser Kirkwood, of acrylic paint supplier Chroma. He offered to supply all his paint free of charge.

Mr Kirkwood, managing director of Chroma’s European division, based in Chorley New Road, Heaton, said: “Oliver’s projects are excellent and artistically valid. His projects are a bit different. The sentiments behind it, and the way Oliver carries out the projects, are very good.”

Mr Wotherspoon, aged 28, from Westhoughton, who won the Community Award in our Bolton and Bury Business Awards this year, said: “It is brilliant. It will really help the schools and organisations.”

Mr Wotherspoon has a studio at the Enterprise Centre, Deane Road.
