PEOPLE are being urged to take swine flu seriously as cases fall slightly across the North West.

Health bosses want people to remain vigilant about the virus.

The warning comes as figures show 2,147 people were suspected of having swine flu in the region on the week ending October 28, compared to 2,376 the previous week.

NHS Bolton figures released last week showed 618 people were issued medication for the week up to October 25, a rise from 515 the previous week.

Dr Ruth Hussey, North West director for public health said: “Our biggest concern is that although for the majority of people swine flu is a mild to moderate illness, for some the illness is very severe. I would urge people to take swine flu seriously.”

Anyone who thinks they have the virus can contact the National Pandemic Flu Service at direct.gov.uk/pandemicflu or call 0800 1 513 513 for information or 0800 1 513 100 for treatment.
