BOLTON will remember the brave men and women who have lost their lives serving their country when services are held across the town on Sunday to mark Remembrance Day.

The night before, Bolton’s annual Remembrance Concert, which has been running for more than 50 years, will be held at 7pm, at the Albert Halls.

The Hoover Brass Band will play old favourites, reminding people of the community spirit which carried the nation to victory.

Actors from Bolton Little Theatre will also perform scenes from The Accrington Pals.

Tickets for the concert are £6.50 and are available from the Albert Halls box office at Bolton Town Hall, or telephone 01204 334400 to book.

Cllr Frank White, president of Bolton United Service Veterans’ Association, said: “I urge Bolton’s residents to support all our remembrance events so that we can thank all those who have served our country in the past and present.”

On Sunday, the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Norman Critchley, will lead civic guests from the town hall on to the steps for the town’s main service, which begins just before 11am. The Vicar of Bolton, the Rev Matt Thompson, will lead the service.

A maroon will be fired at 11am to mark the start of a two-minute silence.

Youngsters will lay wreaths on behalf of the borough’s schools and Scouts will be selling poppies.

The mayor will also join war veterans and members of the public in Victoria Square on Wednesday to mark Armistice Day.

There will be short prayers before a two-minute silence at 11am.
