TERRITORIAL Army troops in Bolton have confirmed they will march on Remembrance Day.

Fears were raised earlier this month that reservists would be unable to take part in the weekend’s events because of an effective shut-down of barracks for six months due to Government cut backs.

But last week the Prime Minister committed £20 million to ensure all normal training for TA members could continue as before.

Sgt Bob Nicholls, aged 56, from Great Lever, a 38-year veteran of the TA, said troops from Bolton were planning to march on Remembrance Day even before the funding was restored.

He said: “We decided, before we got the money, that we were going to do it and whoever was there on the day would be there on a voluntary basis.

“But now things are back up running again it will go ahead as planned — we are back to a normal situation.”

The traditional two-minute silence will start at 11am with a maroon being fired to mark the start and end of the silence.

TA troops will then march from Victoria Square to Nelson Square where they will hold their own service.

The TA centre, in Nelson Street, is home to 216 Battery of 103 Regiment Royal Artillery.

More than 80 volunteer soldiers train at the barracks, which opened in April, 1992 The centre is also home to the Lancashire Artillery Volunteer Band.
