A NIGHT of festive cheer is set to give the Marie Curie Nurses Appeal a boost.

Booth’s music is staging a Christmas concert tomorrow night, with all the proceeds going towards the charity’s £200,000 target.

Marie Curie Cancer Care, which is being supported by The Bolton News, launched a campaign in June to provide more free home nursing care for local terminally ill people. Booth’s Music, based in Churchgate, in the town centre, will hold the event for the second year.

Owner Tony Aspinall’s father, Trevor, of Bolton, was cared for by Marie Curie nurses before he died of cancer, aged 80, in 2007.

Mr Aspinall said: “The nurses were so fantastic we decided to put on a concert last year in aid of Marie Curie. It was a big success and raised £200-£300 so we thought we’d do it again, this time the money will go to the appeal.

“We’re supporting it, it’s important to have more nurses in Bolton. They were such a good help to my mum, Freda, right through to the end.”

Around 70 students, who learn to play musical instruments at the store, will perform a wide range of pieces, from classical and jazz to a samba group, rock band and barbershop quartet.

The concert will be staged at Victoria Hall, in Knowsley Street, in the town centre, tomorrow night. Doors open 6.30pm, with performances starting at 7-7.15pm.

Mr Aspinall added: “Nothing makes you feel more Christmassy than a Christmas concert, so come and get into the festive spirit. It’s for a good cause as well.”

Tickets, priced at £4, are available from Booth’s Music. For more information contact 01204 522908 or enquiries@boothsmusic.co.uk. Booth’s would like to thank the local churches, Rainy Williamson, the Great Little Cup Company, Tiggis, John O’Brian and Bank Top Brewery for supporting the event.
