BOLTON will have more control over its own governance after Greater Manchester was granted city region status.
The move is a result of an agreement between the 10 councils which make up the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities. The agreement will be signed in Bury tomorrow.
It will result in new statutory powers for the region for skills and apprenticeships, better integration of school places and more say in how funding is spent. Chief Secretary to the Treasury Liam Byrne said: “We’re determined to give local government and other services greater autonomy to respond to the needs and concerns of citizens.”
