TWO business owners have stepped in to sponsor the strips of two Farnworth football teams following an appeal in The Bolton News business pages.

Now two of the teams at Highfield Amateur Football Club in Farnworth are smartly turned out thanks to the generosity of Halbro Sportswear and Spice Islands Trading Company.

The Bolton News reported that unlike other teams at the club, the Under-Nines team did not have a new kit and had to wear a secondhand strip for games.

They appealed for local businesses to help and when companies saw the story, they contacted the club.

Under-Nine’s manager and assistant club secretary Janet Cormican said: “I approached Halbro, which is now our new sponsor and already in the process of making our new strip, and it arranged Spice Islands Trading Company to sponsor another kit which will be worn by one of our older teams.

“So we have gone from no sponsor at all to two sponsors and we now actually have our kits, and this is all down to the article.

“The children are thrilled to bits with their kits and are now disappointed that after having the new kit, they have only been able to play in it once due to our matches being cancelled through the bad weather.”

The team is also looking for two more Under-Nines (Year Four) outfield players to strengthen the seven-a-side squad which trains every Wednesday.
