BOLTON could become part of David Cameron’s £20 billion local green revolution — if the Conservatives triumph locally and nationally.
The Tory leader revealed plans yesterday to help residents save hundreds of pounds on their annual energy bills.
Under the scheme, around six million households across the country would get access to up to £6,500 worth of energy efficiency measures under the partnership scheme, according to the Tories.
Companies such as Tesco and Marks & Spencer would lag lofts and insulate walls, then share the resulting savings in energy bills with householders over a minimum 15-20 years. Cllr John Walsh, leader of Bolton’s Conservative group, said the scheme would benefit some of the most vulnerable residents in the town.
He said: “This is something I would like to see Bolton involved in, dependant, obviously, on whether there is a Conservative government and we are running Bolton Council.
“Not only will it make homes more greener, it will also help put more money in people’s pockets.”
But Labour have dismissed the plans as a “green con”.
A spokesman said: “At the same time as saying they will cut the deficit, the Tories are making yet more unfunded commitments.”
