THE Premier Division title is Ramsbottom A’s for the taking after they extended their lead to a massive 26 points.

They beat Wharton 8-1 to continue their relentless march to clinching the league’s top prize.

With second-placed Ramsbottom B not playing this week, and third-placed Hilton Tameside restricted to a 6-3 victory over second-bottom Burning Desire, the Ramsbottom first team look ever more destined to take the title with each passing week.

Barry Elliott won the consolation set for Wharton.

Tameside moved up to second after winning 6-3 at Burning Desire but Ben Armstrong sprung the surprise when he beat Jake Shaw over four games. John Hope was unbeaten for Tameside.

Three wins by John Hilton and two by Pavel Orzechowski gave St Catherine’s A their 6-3 win over Hilton A.

The Hilton team followed up with a 5-4 victory over Little Lever A, the three wins by Hilton’s Dave Pickard making the difference.

From 4-1 down, Radcliffe CC recovered to win a close match at Little Lever B 5-4, four players recording two wins in the match.

In Division One, Dave Scowcroft scored two wins for Heaton C who lost 7-2 against table-toppers Heaton A. Steve Barber trebled for the A team.

Second-placed St Catherine’s B lost 7-2 at Ramsbottom D whose Les Phillipson won three and Tom Ryan and Martin Wyatt two apiece.Stuart Wallis won the two sets for the losers.

Dennis Collier and Derek Watmough were unbeaten for Nomads A, who beat Heaton B 7-2, as were Ric Simmons and Paul Tatlock for Little Lever C in their 8-1 victory over Meadow Bank.

Grubba Fans retain top spot in Division Two after a 6-3 win over Coburg but only four points separate them from second-placed Nomads B who have a match in hand. For Grubba both Damian Bednarski and Marek Marasziewicz trebled. Nomads closed the gap by winning 7-2 against Hilton E and 8-1 against Little Lever D. Brett Haslam trebled in both matches and Dave Holden was unbeaten against Little Lever, junior Matthew Fields won the two consolation sets for Hilton.

Three matches ended with a 5-4 result, Farnworth TTC A beat Hilton D, Hilton C beat Ladybridge B, and Heaton D won at BEN A. Tony Eardley trebled for Hilton D, Chris Naylor for Hilton C and John Cartledge for Heaton D.
