For the planning committee to approve the Spirit of Sport sculpture scheme, even though a safety certificate has not yet been received, is beyond comprehension.

The question of safety of the location was raised when the proposal was first mooted.

On October 23 last year, you published the following letter from me: "The Spirit of Sport sculpture may be a brilliant idea which may give a lift to the local economy and the profile of the borough.

"Please, however, give further thought to its location on the De Havilland Way roundabout. This is at a main junction with constant traffic and will cause a serious distraction to motorists.

"Also, if the Spirit of Sport is sited in the middle of a roundabout, how can people congregate to admire the thousand panels with pictures of sporting heroes and other famous faces from around the borough?"

On October 23 last, there were three other letters similar to mine. I am astonished to learn that the question of safety has not been settled five months later.
