STEWART and Diane Pomfret have been on a rollercoaster ride in their bid to have a child.

But after a decade of heartache and disappointment, their dream is almost a reality.

For the Pomfrets are expecting a baby boy, after their final course of IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) treatment proved successful.

They are anxiously waiting for Diane to go into labour for the birth of their son, Nathan Stewart.

The couple turned to IVF 10 years ago, when Diane's fallopian tubes remained badly damaged after an operation to unlock them.

Since then it has been a catalogue of heartache for the couple, who have had to endure two miscarriages, an ectopic pregnancy and four failed attempts to get pregnant.

Diane, aged 40, said: "I'm feeling ok, but a little fed up.

"The telephone never stops ringing with our family and friends constantly asking if the baby is on its way.

"It's been a long fight to arrive at this day and there have been times when it's become very hard.

"But it's important to never give up and stay strong."

Diane already has two grow up children, Paul, aged 20, and Craig, aged 21, but she was desperate to have a child with Stewart.

"I really wanted a baby with Stewart as it will be our first together," she said.

"He's overjoyed that it's finally happening."

IVF involves the woman taking fertility drugs to help her produce more eggs, which are fertilised in the laboratory before being implanted in her body.

Stewart said: "It's been a difficult ten years with a lot of ups and downs, but Diane getting pregnant makes everything else fade into the distance.

"There were times when I thought it wouldn't happen, but it's all been worthwhile.

"Now it's time to concentrate on the future."
