THE memory of Dave "Ding Dong Do" Higson is to live on in the form of a trophy to recognise the special achievements of Bolton Wanderers players.

The Bolton Wanderers Supporters Association has created an annual award in honour of the club's most famous supporter, who died recently.

Members can nominate their own candidates but suggestions for the inaugural award are Khalilou Fadiga, for overcoming his heart scare to play his way back into the first team squad and international recognition, Gary Speed, for extending his run as the Premierships most experienced player, and Stelios, for bringing prestige to the club with his invovement in Greeces European Championship triumph last summer.

The BWSA will hold a Celebration of the Life of Dave Higson in the Reeboks Platinum Suite on Wednesday (7.30 for 8pm) with an open invitation to all supporters who knew the Ding Dong Do man to pay tribute to his memory.

John McGinlay, John Thomas and Tony Kelly are among the former players planning to attend the tribute night with Dave's wife, Barbara, urging everyone who turns up to "have smiles on their faces".
