REGARDING the green boxes - they are NOT for food cans, they are for clean, glass containers, plastic bottles and drinks cans only (and empty aerosols, but not the lids).
The only problems we have are that they fill up quickly, are only emptied every fortnight, and are uncovered so kids can get at all the contents once you put the box out ... so our back streets are often full of all the aforementioned contents.
Lids might help.
