DANIEL Chesney is hoping he has got the "specs" appeal to win him a top modelling contract.

The 22-year-old from Westhoughton has been picked to represent the North-west in a modelling competition run by Specsavers Opticians.

Daniel, who is a marketing co-ordinator said: "I saw the entry form in the Bolton Evening News and decided to enter for a laugh. Friends had said I could be a model, but I have never really thought about."

Daniel will face 10 potential models in the semi-finals of the competition, which will be held in Leeds on March 23.

Eight will be chosen to go to the finals in London, where judges will chose who could potentially be the nation's next supermodel.

Specsavers launched its annual hunt for the UK's sexiest specs wearer last November with the help of celebrity model and girlfriend of Rod Stewart, Penny Lancaster.

Daniel added: "I started wearing glasses when I was 16, and I sent a photo of myself wearing sunglasses with the application form.

"I am shocked to have been chosen to go through to the semi-final, I didn't think I stood a chance.

"I would love to go on and win because one of the prizes is a holiday in Mexico."

As well as a holiday, the successful winner will receive a 12-month modelling contract with top firm Models 1, £250 spending money, £300 worth of hair and beauty products and a Specsavers designer frames voucher.
