YOUNG people with hearing impairments are welcomed at the Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

The Spa Road club operates a successful Deaf Club, which is part of the Thursday senior and Friday junior youth clubs.

Youngsters travel from as far as Rochdale, Burnley and Ince, as well as from around the Bolton area, to enjoy a range of activities.

They enjoy outdoor activities and residentials and have the opportunity to learn life skills such as cooking, as well as taking part in the usual Bolton Lads and Girls Club activities. Youth club manager Phil Marsh said: "We approached schools with specialist deaf units and invited children and young people with hearing impairments to come and join the fun back in 1994. There are now around 25 attending each of the two evenings."

One of the youngsters said: "If it wasn't for the club, I would have to stay in with my dad.

"It gets me out of the house."

Bolton Lads and Girls Club also runs a Just For Girls section. Volunteers are needed to help at the club, which runs every Sunday from 1pm to 4pm.

They would be required to help out with activities including sport, IT, arts, crafts, dance and table games.

Anyone interested can contact the club on 01204 540100.
