A CARETAKER at a Bury mill had a lucky escape after vandals pushed a burning wheelie bin against the door of his quarters in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Firebugs jammed the burning bin into the caretakers entrance of Britannia Mill, on Cobden Street, while the man was inside at around 1.40am.

He was rescued by firefighters, who smashed their way into the smoke-logged building to find the man, who had suffered the effects of inhaling smoke. He was treated at the scene, but declined hospital treatment.
