A POST mortem examination will be carried out into the death of a man hit by a train.
Nigel Howarth was killed instantly following the collision south of Lostock Station at 7pm on Monday night.
A file has been passed to the coroner and an inquest is expected to be opened later on Wednesday when Mr Howarth's death is officially registered.
A spokesman at Bolton Coroner's Court said: "'No cause of death has been established yet as the body is subject to a post mortem examination."
The accident happened as the 6.10pm Northern train service between Manchester Airport and Southport was nearing a bridge at Beaumont Road in Lostock.
The body of Mr Howarth, who is believed to be in his 50s, was retrieved from the tracks by police officers
British Transport Police have said that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
