THE M6 was closed for several hours after a lorry carrying chemicals careered into the central reservation at junction 33 near Lancaster.
Five people, including two police officers, were taken to hospital following the crash on Monday night.
A special decontamination unit is at the scene dealing with what Lancashire Police believe to be formaldehyde solution and methanol.
Junctions 33 to 34 of the M6 were closed in both directions reported BBC Lancashire.
But by lunchtime on Tuesday the southbound carriageway was open with traffic restrictions while the northbound carriageway was expected to be open by teatime.
