I HAVE considerable sympathies with the disabled man who was fined for parking in a non-disabled bay in a Bolton car park (February 25).
Sometimes l wonder whether my former colleagues on Bolton Council have really thought their parking policy through.
l understand that part of the budget voted through last Wednesday will have the effect of charging all disabled drivers in Bolton's off-street car parks.
Bear in mind that disabled drivers, under national legislation, can park on any double yellow line where a loading and unloading prohibition is not applicable, and you will realise that what Bolton is about to do is to encourage disabled drivers to stay out of the car parks, where their vehicles are at least out of the way, and park instead on double yellow lines, creating obstructions all over town.
Clever!
