A BOY was killed after he was thrown under the wheels of a bus following an accident near his home.

Jordan Hynes, aged four, was hit by a car and catapulted into the path of the bus in Wigan Road, Leigh.

He was crushed under its wheels.

Jordan was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary where he later died from his injuries.

On Monday morning, flowers and teddy bears marked the spot where the accident happened at 3.50pm on Saturday, near the junction with Browning Road.

Jordan's mother, Sharon, of Cameron Street, Westleigh, and his brother and sister were trying to come to terms with the tragedy.

A message in flowers left by his parents reads: "To our special baby boy Jordan. We will miss you lots. Will love you forever, love mummy and daddy."

Another says: "To Jordan, missing you, lots of love grandma and grandad."

It is believed the youngster was crossing the road alone when he was hit by a red Nissan Micra.

A neighbour said: "I just heard a loud bang and a screech of brakes.

"When I came out, I couldn't see much, there was so many people around.

"The police and ambulance arrived very quickly and sealed the area off."

The area was cordoned off for most of Saturday afternoon and evening while Greater Manchester police accident investigators examined the scene.

Wigan Road reopened at 11pm.

A 39-year-old woman from Leigh has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

She was bailed until Saturday, April 23.
