I WAS delighted on Thursday to attend the ceremony marking the creation of the University of Bolton.
The event, which started with a fanfare of music at the Town Hall, was an occasion that all of Bolton could be proud of.
It has taken many years for the former Bolton Institute to achieve this prestigious new status and although I have many arguments with the present Government, it would be churlish of me on such an important day not to thank the former Secretary of State for Education, Charles Clarke, for enabling Bolton to get its own university. Now that we have have a university, Bolton is one step further towards achieving City status and I now hope that the three political parties can once again work together to make this happen.
However before anything is done to obtain City status, it is vitally important that it is supported by the majority of residents, perhaps you might let us know your views.
