FARBOROUGH 0, LEIGH RMI 1: RMI manager Steve Bleasdale is singing the praises of his reformed defence after they kept Farnborough at bay to record a second successive away win.

Gary Williams provided the only goal for the Railwaymen on the hour, sweeping home after Chris Simm had been first to Nick Burton's poor clearance.

But it was due to another clean sheet that the single strike was enough for three points.

Bleasdale said: "I knew that we had to get more streetwise at the back from watching the team over the past few months and we're doing that now.

"It was a great effort from the lads because they (Farnborough) were the better side in the first half.

"But Gary Holloway had been causing problems for them, I asked our lads to keep him quiet and they all did their individual jobs well," Bleasdale added.

The early stages were a virtual one-on-one contest between RMI keeper Jon Worsnop and Robert Traynor, with Worsnop making a string of good saves to keep the Hampshire side out.

Worsnop was beaten once by Traynor only for the crossbar to come to Leigh's aid and then Bertie Brayley skipped around Worsnop, only to waste his opportunity from an acute angle.

Having survived and regrouped, Leigh started to shine and bossed the game - even more so once Williams had lashed in the clincher.

The Railwaymen now have a full week to prepare for their next game after Tuesday's match at home to Canvey Island was postponed due to the Islanders' FA Trophy commitments.

"Gareth Stoker needs the time to rest his ankle because he did well for us but it's still sore and Gibson and Drew have knocks so the break might help us out," commented Bleasdale.

RMI: Worsnop, Lane, Chris Clarke, Roscoe, Peyton, Shillito, Stoker (Ryder 82), Peers, Ryan Clarke, Walsh (Simm 29), Williams (Taylor 75).
