A BELMONT pub quiz fan is celebrating a £32,000 windfall after his appearance on the television show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
Tony Ramsden was watched by millions as he gambled on the £64,000 question in the popular quiz on Saturday.
He lost but left ITV's London studios with a cheque for £32,000.
Mr Ramsden, aged 48, of High Street, said: "You only get one shot at it so I thought I'd take the risk.
"Chris Tarrant was very nice and helped by calming my nerves."
Mr Ramsden, a company director for security systems firm Endusis in Bury, has a wife, Christine, and 12-year-old son Jake.
For £64,000, he was asked: "Who became the master of the Queen's music in 2004?" The answer was Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.
Mr Ramsden, who is in the Belmont Bulls quiz team, said: "It was quite a surreal experience being in the studio, almost like an out of body experience.
"I tried to get on the show at the very beginning but was spurred on when someone I know appeared in the show recently.
"I telephoned the hotline a few hundred times; I know others phoned thousands of times before getting there."
