LORD of the Rings star Sir Ian McKellen has joined a campaign urging tourists to boycott Myanmar because of its appalling human right record.
The former Bolton School pupil, has joined politicians including Tony Blair in signing up to the "I'm Not Going" campaign.
The boycott was launched last month by the Burma Campaign UK, which refers to the country by its former name.
The campaign is similar to those which put pressure on South Africa's former apartheid regime.
Along with Sir Ian and the Prime Minister, the scheme is being backed by American actress Susan Sarandon, actor Christopher Lee and designer Vivienne Westwood, as well as dozens of politicians.
Tony Blair told the campaign that Myanmar's junta, which has ruled the country since a 1962 coup, was responsible for torture, killings, rape and forced labour, including children.
