A FAMILY fun day to raise money in memory of a girl who died from cancer proved a huge success.

Almost £4,000 was donated in memory of Emma Harrison, aged 12, who died from a brain tumour on New Year's Eve.

The fun day was held at the Bowling Green pub, Halliwell, on Sunday where an auction, a raffle and games were held.

The day raised £1,500 and the rest of the money was donated to Emma's parents, Alison and Paul, of Great Lever, in lieu of flowers at Emma's funeral.

The money is being split between the Heywood Ward at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital at Pendlebury, where Emma was treated, and Derian House Children's Hospice, Chorley, who also treated her before she died.

Mrs Harrison said: "It was a brilliant day and so many people came. We can't believe how much money we have been given for the hospital and the hospice."
