WANDERERS have made a dramatic late bid to sign World Cup winner, Vincent Candela, before Monday's transfer deadline.

Reports in Italy claim the versatile 31-year-old Roma defender, who won 40 caps with France and was a team-mate of Youri Djorkaeff in the 1998 and 2002 World Cup squads, is due to fly in for talks on Saturday.

Southampton are also reported to be interested.

Candela, nicknamed the Musketeer because of his elegance on the pitch, won the Italian championship with Roma in 2001. He has struggled to make the Serie A side this season and is looking to revive his career in England.

"Vincent has a few more years left in him," his agent, Alexander Kristic said. "He wants to enjoy his football and would have no problem playing in England."
