RESIDENTS living near a burning coal mine slag heap have been told they can discuss possible compensation pay outs with the local authority.
Wigan Council says it should have begun putting out the underground fire at Broomfield Tip earlier than it did in October, 2003, reports BBC Manchester
The blaze, in Standish, subsequently spread but has now been put out, the council says.
