TWO young musicians raised £600 for a community church with a wacky collection of their own songs and sketches.

Mark Attwood, aged 22, and James Lister, aged 21, held the "Two Men and a Piano' show at Bolton Arts Centre to collect cash for St Andrew's Church and Sonlight, part of the parish of St Peter's Halliwell.

The music graduates, who formed their act at Nottingham University, raised £600 using an act based on eccentric 1930s double act Flanders and Swan.

Mark, of Waterslea Drive, Heaton, said: "We got into writing our own funny songs at university and performed quite a few times in Nottingham, but this is the first time weve performed in Bolton.

"I'm training to be a teacher at the moment and James is studying for an MA, but if the act works out wed like to go for it."

St Andrew's Church is hoping to reconstruct its main building and create a community hall, and are half-way towards their cash target.

Deputy Arts Centre manager Catherine Hargraves said: "They were very funny and everyone really enjoyed it. They're welcome back anytime."
