TWO school friends put their best feet forward to raise money for victims of the tsunami disaster.

Sophie Clarke and her friend Rebecca Hamer, both aged 11, raised £467 by staging a sponsored run around Smithills Hall Country Park.

They were inspired to fund-raise after seeing TV images of the region's orphaned children.

The friends, who attend St Peter's Smithills Dean Primary School, ran more than two miles to raise the cash.

They also made their own T-shirts featuring Warm Blankets, an international orphan charity.

Judith Clarke, Sophie's mum, said: "They organised this completely off their own bat after seeing the disaster on TV.

"They were really keen to help the orphans - they really feel for them.

"They worked really hard getting sponsors and organising everything themselves."

She sad the girls were regular fundraisers, and had also collected cash for their school cause, the Mamole School in Kenya, by organising a "name the teddy" competition.
