A boundary mystery is exercising reader John Williams of Farnworth.

He has always felt that the Unity Brook is the boundary between Clifton and Kearsley, rather than the one in place near Jonathan's barber's shop which cuts right across Manchester Road - "splitting an obvious community straight in half."

I decided to consult an old map which indeed confirms my suspicion that Unity Brook is the true boundary, John says. The map was the Godfrey map of 1909.

John goes on: Disregarding the present Bolton Metro and City of Salford border at Teak Drive/Jonathans barbers, Kearsley Urban District (as was) and the borough of Swinton and Pendlebury (as was) must have exchanged land at some point since 1909.

John wants to know when this happened and why an obvious part of Clifton (Corrie Drive, Teak Drive etc) was moved into Kearsley. Can anybody help?
