THE item about Farnworth watches given for service in the 1914-18 war led to a telephone call from Frank Peake of Farnworth.
Frank tells me he still has the Waltham pocket watch which was given to his grandfather, Augustin Neary, after he returned from the war.
"It is in working order," he says.
The inscription reads: "Presented to Sgt A. Neary by the people of Farnworth in recognition of distinguished service rendered in the great war, 1914/18."
Frank remembers being told at one stage that only two of the watches were presented.
Sheila Fewings of Northamptonshire is asking readers for any information they might have about how they were distributed and where the money came from for their purchase.
Her address is 6 William Steele Way, Higham Ferrers, Rushden, Northants NN10 8LS.
