BOLTON Mets ARLFC started the New Year as they finished the last with a comfortable 42-10 victory over bottom club Southport.

This was the Mets first game for six weeks and they struggled to containt he home side in the early stages. Southport scored first, but stand-off Mark Dorning replied when he crossed the line, quickly followed by second rower Joe Harte. Centre Dave Edmundson added to the Mets tally just before half-time bringing the score to 16-6. The second half started with Southport back on the score sheet but from then on it was one-way traffic. Prop Ryan Terry burst through from acting half and full back Pierce Sherrington spun out of a tackle to score. Three more tries from Harte, one a solo effort from 80 yards out, sealed it for Bolton.

Man of the match went to Dorning with Harte coming a close second. The next Mets game is at home against Weaverham.
