MULTI-million pound proposals that will bring hundreds of jobs to Radcliffe and regenerate the town centre have been unveiled by council bosses.

Major plans are set to breathe new life into the town's Sun Quarter, the East Lancashire Paper Mill site and the area's redundant high schools.

A 19-stall market, more retail outlets and a revamped bus station will come to the Sun Quarter, near Dale Street on Pilkington Way.

There will be 190 apartments, shops and offices.

Further community facilities may include a new library and art gallery and museum along the river.

Details have also been revealed about a 500-home development near Top o'th' Cross, along with a mini industrial estate.

It comes as a boost for the area with the business complex expected to provide around 270 new jobs.

The proposals will allow the new 900-place Riverside High School to be built on the East Lancashire Paper Mill site, with adjacent playing fields on the former Tower Farm landfill site.

Coney Green High School is also being demolished and merging with the Radcliffe High School to make way for the new homes.

The two "masterplans" went on public display this week and will be discussed at a Radcliffe Area Board meeting on February 7.

Councillor Steve Perkins, Bury Council's Executive Member for Regeneration and Housing, said, "This is a very exciting time for the town."

Consultation will continue until the plans are considered by the councils Executive members in March.
