GREENMOUNT have emerged as the favourites to take the Bolton League's Anthony Axford indoor cricket title.

Last week they became the first club to beat defending champions Walkden for six years, and followed it this week by booking their place in Sunday's semi-finals.

That will pit them against Bradshaw, another side that has excelled in this year's competition, for a place in the final later that day against either Kearsley or Farnworth.

Greenmount's route to the last four stage did not look easy after Westhoughton had posed a healthy 116-5 in their quarter final match. Rick Parker hit 41 not out in that total, but Greenmount responded with superb batting performances from David Morris, 30 not out, and Andy Bowker, 29 not out, as they eased to 117-1.

Bradshaw's route to the semis was similarly impressive. Their game was decided by the performances of their bowlers, who dismissed Heaton for a meagre 53.

Simon Ainsworth led the way with 3-14, and Phil Dickinson 2-15, before Nick Lester hit an unbeaten 27 not out in the five wicket win.

Kearsley were also thankful for outstanding bowling displays after they had been dismissed for only 70 by Egerton. Mel Whittle took 1-3 off three overs, then David Matthews finished with 2-15 and Peter Morris 1-17 to dismiss Egerton for only 58.

In the remaining quarter final, Farnworth eased to a five wicket win over Astley Bridge, who were dismissed for 69. Top scorer in Farnworth's total of 70-1 was Tim Barrow with an unbeaten 25.

The finals take place on Sunday at Little Lever Sports Centre. Bradshaw and Greenmount meet at 12.45, with the Kearsley v Farnworth tie at 2pm. The final will then be played at 3.45.
