A property company has claimed the days of the cowboy builder are numbered, after it launched a "one-stop" building service.

Do It Right UK, which has been launched by commercial property specialist Provence, on Bradshawgate, Bolton, aims to supply reliable tradespeople to business and domestic customers across the region from its new base on Bridge Place, Bolton.

Simon Rosson, who has been drafted in by Provence to launch and develop the business, said: "This is a business that has come about through our experience in the commercial property market. We have forged strong links with the companies that carry out work on the Provence portfolio of UK properties, including Vogue and The Swan here in Bolton.

"We identified the difficulty in locating quality tradespeople when we needed them, and realised that the problem is the same in the domestic market."

In the week when the Bolton Evening News revealed that trading standards teams in the town received 1,000 complaints about shoddy house repairs by rogue builders last year, Do It Right announced that its aim is to compile a ready supply of "approved" tradespeople with whom it works, who can then take on domestic jobs passed to them through the Bridge Place headquarters.

Simon said: "It's a very simple idea but it could be very effective, and in terms of expansion, the sky is potentially the limit. We already have over 400 skilled workers on the books, and we are always looking for more.

"Because we're keeping the tradespeople busy with commercial work and through Do It Right UK, we receive preferential rates and these can be passed on to the customer.

"It's a supermarket principle. We buy in bulk and pass the discount on."
