COMEDIAN Dave Spikey turned down an offer to appear on Celebrity Big Brother.

The Bolton writer and star of ITV comedy Dead Man Weds said he has also been invited to appear on other TV reality shows, such as Celebrity Weakest Link, Stars In Their Eyes and Rock Camp America, since first rising to fame in Phoenix Nights.

Speaking at the Bolton Evening News offices in Churchgate, Dave said: "You get to a certain level and these offers come in.

"I'm not really a celebrity so there must be an angle as to why they are asking me to go on. I'm a very strong vegetarian and you think maybe they want me to be in the Big Brother house with somebody who is pro-hunt just to cause an argument.

"I'm happy with my profile at the level it is at. People give me the thumbs up and shout "Nice one Dave"."

Dave said Dead Man Weds, which is based in a newspaper office and is named after a Bolton Evening News bill poster he had seen outside newsagents, had received 80 per cent positive reviews.
