It is nice to see the legendary Ken Dodd treading the boards of the Albert Halls in Bolton.
And the Bolton Evening News is, as usual, correct in stating that Doddy has a very soft spot for the people of this great town.
Ken Dodd's career started in September, 1954, at the Nottingham Empire. His second professional show was here in Bolton at the Grand Theatre on Churchgate (now gone).
Without a doubt Dodd is Britains finest variety comedian.
Whenever you go to watch him you soon realise that with Ken Dodd you don't just watch the show - you are in it. It's guaranteed laughter from the start until about 1.30 the next morning - not bad for a man of 77.
Doddy still sings live on stage, unlike some of the modern stars, and no two shows are ever the same.
I have known Ken Dodd for many years and without question he is one of the nicest men in show business that you could ever wish to meet.
Anyone who thinks they want to be a comedian should save up to watch this man, because if they can do a quarter of what he can they will have a future in comedy.
Ken Dodd has remained at the top of his field for more than 50 years, and Im sure he will continue there for many more years.
I am sure he will remain a favourite with the people of Bolton.
