BOOKMAKERS are counting their good fortune following Bezs shock win in Celebrity Big Brother.

Hot favourite to come top in the reality television show was Blazin Squad rapper Kenzie.

Had he won, the payouts by bookies would have run into the millions.

But 40-year-old Bez's victory has cost them considerably less, prompting many to sing the praises of the former Happy Mondays dancer from Little Hulton.

Rupert Adams, spokesman for William Hill, said: "Bez was odds-on to be evicted when he went against John McCririck in an earlier eviction, and reached 20-1 in the outright betting.

"Punters backed Kenzie down to an amazingly short price.

"But in this case, it proves that whatever you know, there is no such thing as a sure thing."

William Hills' odds were as short as 1-5 on that Kenzie would win when they closed the betting.

Bez beat Kenzie and actress Brigitte Nielsen in the Channel 4 final on Sunday, winning £50,000.

The latest series of Celebrity Big Brother began on January 6 and has raised more than £250,000 for charity.

An average of 4.1 million viewers watched the series, slightly down on the last series in 2002, with 5.4 million seeing Bez triumph.

Bez, real name Mark Berry, won after receiving 54 per cent of the total public vote.
