RIVINGTON earned what could turn out to be three valuable points in their struggle to avoid re-election in the Lancashire Amateur League..

Rivs applied the early pressure and took the lead on 10 minutes when striker Austin Brobby won a free kick wide on the left flank.

Andy Mason delivered a quality cross, and Brobby rose above the Lostock defence to head the ball into the roof of the net.

Rivs then took control of midfield through Mason and Hindley, and deservedly increased their lead on 20 minutes when a Steven Green cross on the right flank was driven hard and low, and Andrew Elliots diving header sent the ball past the keeper.

In the second half, Lostock pressed to get a goal back, but Rivs' back four stood solid with Graham Haddon having an outstanding game in the heart of the defence.

In the end, however, Lostock scored a consolation goal on 90 minutes.
